Accelerated LPN to RN Option
The Department of Associate Degree Nursing offers the opportunity to the Licensed Practical Nurse to complete the course of study leading to the Associate of Science in Nursing degree. The LPN is required to take NUR 205, NUR 232, NUR 234, NUR 2, NUR 255 and all non-nursing courses in the curriculum; the LPN is granted credit for NUR 112, NUR 116, NUR 124 and NUR 126 after successful completion of NUR 205.
Licensed practical nurse applicants are eligible to be considered for admission who have:
- Met University requirements for proficiency in English, reading, and mathematics.
- Met the Pre-College Curriculum requirements.
- A minimum EKU and cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Grades of "C" or better in any supporting courses that have been completed.
In addition to the criteria for admission, the applicant who is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) must:
- Submit evidence of licensure from a jurisdiction recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Have practiced as an LPN within the past two (2) years.
Curriculum requirements may change. Students are advised to keep themselves informed through their academic advisor and department chair.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Progression in the program.
In order for students to follow the established progression of the program sequence, they must:
- Meet all prerequisites.
- A high school or college (cumulative and EKU) GPA of 2.0 or a 4.0 scale).
- Complete all major and prerequisite courses with a "C" or better.
Clinical Requirements.
Transportation to all clinical experiences is the responsibility of the student. Before a student can progress to a clinical experience the following requirements must be met:
Proof of professional liability insurance purchased through the University.
- Proof of CPR certification.
- Proof of MMR immunity.
- Proof of Varicella immunity.
- Proof of Hepatitis B immunity.
- Proof of TB skin test (annually).
READMISSION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A student who fails to progress must make application for readmission to the program and be processed through the Admissions/Progression Committee. Readmission to a nursing course is not guaranteed to any student. This committee represents the Department of Associate Degree Nursing which has the authority in readmission decisions for the department. The student is advised to refer to their copy of the Department Student Handbook for specific procedures concerning readmission.
APPEALS
Students may appeal decisions related to progression and readmission to the Department Admissions Committee. Appeal procedures are outlined in the Department Student Handbook.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Nursing Student Network
The EKU Nursing Student Network (NSN) is an organization that offers nursing students many chances for personal and professional growth. The NSN meets regularly for programs, service projects and mutual support. Students involved in NSN have the opportunity to attend local, state and national conferences that focus on nursing student issues.
